SEANCE FOR THE SOUND YOU CAN’T FORGET AND THE FACE YOU CAN’T REMEMBER
(2018)
mixed media, audio, touch sensor, LED lights
working with the experience of being able to smell, feel, touch and see a fleeting memory based on hearing one specific sound (in this case it’s the crows that lived in my backyard), but at the same time not being able to remember anything else, like people’s faces. Due to the feeling of being “transported” into a memory through audio, I wanted to present the piece as an invocation and seance to these feelings. The way each piece looks (flashy, kind of gaudy, but with vague religious undertones) is to elevate the seemingly banal (audio, face) to the spiritual and dramatic.
Sunray Crown

Put on the crown and become your own electric saint, even just for a moment.
Fortune Teller Booth (for animals)
(2017)
mixed media, LED lights, proximity sensor
Upon approaching, the lights will turn on. What the oracle reveals to you will not be understandable to humans as the animal oracle speaks only to other animals.
STORM CAPE (2017)
chiffon, cotton, LED light strips, batteries, wires, gloves
cape with LED lights on each side, activated by touching your thumb and forefinger together while wearing gloves. this is a silly video of me demonstrating how it works. the chiffon colors are the colors of an incoming storm while the lighting is provided by the cape's lights. you supply your own thunder.
